Frequently
asked
questions

UTM codes are tracking parameters added to URLs that help you identify traffic sources in Google Analytics. They're essential for measuring marketing campaign effectiveness and understanding which channels drive the best results.
UTM Source, Medium, and Campaign are required parameters. UTM Term and Content are optional but useful for tracking specific keywords and distinguishing between different ads or links in the same campaign.
In Google Analytics, go to Acquisition > Campaigns > All Campaigns to see your UTM campaign data. You can also view source/medium data under Acquisition > All Traffic > Source/Medium.
UTM Source identifies where traffic comes from (like "facebook" or "newsletter"), while UTM Medium describes the type of marketing channel (like "social", "email", or "cpc").
It's not recommended to use UTM codes on internal links as they can interfere with your Analytics data and create new sessions. UTM codes are designed for external traffic sources only.
Use consistent, lowercase naming with clear, descriptive terms. For example: utm_source=facebook, utm_medium=social, utm_campaign=summer_sale_2024. Avoid spaces and special characters.
